You've spent weeks making your wine. The last step, the shrink cap, takes seconds and makes every bottle look store-bought. Shrink caps are among our best-selling supplies, led by the classic Burgundy/Gold Grapes Shrink Cap. Here's how to choose and apply them.
What does a shrink cap do?
A shrink cap is a PVC sleeve that slides over the neck and cork of a bottle and shrinks tight when heated. It gives a clean, glossy finish, helps protect the cork, and gives your guests a neat tear-off opening.
Will they fit my bottles?
Our standard shrink caps measure 30.5 x 55 mm (1.2 x 2.16 in) and fit common 375 ml, 750 ml and 1500 ml wine bottles. They can also work on other bottles with similar neck sizes. They come in packs of 100, so one pack covers more than three 30-bottle batches.
How to apply shrink caps
- Cork and dry. Cork your bottles and make sure the necks are dry.
- Slide it on. Place a shrink cap over the neck and cork and push it down evenly.
- Add heat. Use a heat gun, or hold the neck over steam, turning the bottle until the cap shrinks snugly around the neck.
- Open easily. When it's time to pour, use the easy tear-off strip to remove the cap cleanly.
Pick a colour for every wine
Match the cap to your wine, your label or the occasion. Popular choices include:
- Burgundy/Gold Grapes: a classic for reds like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot
- Gold/Red Stripe: festive and bold
- Coal (Dark Blue/Grey): modern and understated
- Mahogany: rich and warm
- Silver Perforated Metal: crisp for whites like Pinot Grigio
