The Craft Distilling Turbo Yeast Extreme Alcohol Kit is one of our fastest-moving products. It's a high-strength fermentation kit that produces an alcohol base of up to 23% ABV in about a week. Here's what it is, how it works and how to get a clean, complete fermentation.
What is turbo yeast?
Turbo yeast is a blend of alcohol-tolerant yeast and nutrients, made to ferment a sugar wash to a much higher strength than regular wine or beer yeast, and to do it quickly. The Turbo Yeast Extreme kit also includes carbon and clearing agents to help you get a cleaner, clearer base.

Tips for a strong, clean ferment
Hold the temperature
Temperature matters most with turbo yeast. Keep the wash between 68 and 75°F (20–24°C). Too cold and fermentation slows or stalls; too warm and you risk off-flavours.
Follow the sugar and water amounts
The included instructions give the amounts needed to reach full strength. Measure carefully, since too much or too little sugar changes the result.
Start clean
Wash and sanitize your fermenter and tools with B-Brite cleaner before you start.
Use the clearing agents
Once fermentation is complete, use the included carbon and clearing agents as directed to settle the yeast and clear the base.
Adding flavour
Many customers use the finished base with our Crafted Series essences, like Cognac Brandy Essence, to make liqueur-style drinks. Explore everything in Craft Distilling.
Please check your local laws
Laws on home distillation vary. In Canada and the United States, distilling spirits at home generally needs a licence or permit. Always check and follow the rules where you live.
