They were oakey
Not sure how to rate oak chips? They were oakey. I guess they smelled nice? They are soaking now in a batch of Nebbiolo, so if they perform like the same ones I purchased previously, I'm sure they will be great. With this particular kit, I won't know for at least 6 months. I'm sure they'll be kick *** awesome, as long as I dont overdo it. I now mix 50 grams per 6 gallons so they don't overtake the overall flavor.
16l, heavy bodied kit. Very clear even prior to fermentation, little sediment in primary fermentation. End product brilliantly clear, excellent acidity, citrus flavors with good underlying pinot taste.
Easy to Make, Great Tasting Merlot
I was happily surprised the wine came out so well considering I am a beginner at this.
The American Oak chips add a beautiful flavor of mild oak. Much better than French Oak chips. We've used both, and American Oak prevails.
Adds a wonderful accent to the Shiraz. Highly recommend.
